Week 3 Roundup: Warren Falls, Commerce Rolls

September 15, 2007

Warren County is expected to strongly challenge our Devils for the Region 7-A crown this season, and the Screaming Devils looked strong in their 33-13 beating of Washington-Wilkes in their season opener.

From reports on GAVSV, the Screaming Devils had a hard fought battle with Class AA Swainsboro. The Tigers were led by their star QB to an early lead which Warren could not catch. The reported final was 31-21 Swainsboro over Warren County. We still expect those Screaming Devils to be a tough foe in Lincolnton October 26.

For other Region 7-A teams, Friday night was good for some but bad for others. Hancock Central defeated AA Putnam County 18-8, while Twiggs County edged AA East Laurens 24-20 [click for game story]

Athens Academy shutdown the Monticello Hurricanes 41-7. Eagles Landing Christian Academy spanked the GMC Bulldogs 50-16.

Around Class A, ECI pounded Johnson County 33-0 in Wrightsville. [click here for game story]. The Bulldogs from Twin City have whipped their 3 opponents 129-0, but will have a tougher time this coming week when Toombs County comes visiting. Class AA Toombs (Lyons) have blasted their 3 opponents 99-12. Last year ECI won the Dog battle 56-40.

Clinch County demolished Pelham 55-7. Wilcox County blanked Montgomery County 34-0, and Pacelli defeated Landmark Christian 25-17.

Commerce outscored Banks County 55-40 in a game where the defenses were apparently left back at the schools. The two teams combined for over 1,000 yards in offense. Commerce star QB Reuben Haynes accounted for 394 yards of total offense, including five rushing touchdowns. [click here for game story].

Bowdon beat Central of Carrollton 24-0 and Bremen nipped Whitefield Academy 21-17 in west Georgia.

Hawkinsville has started the season 0-3 after falling to AA Bleckley County 27-6 for the first time since 2000. [click here for game story] But then, we know about teams that start 0-3 -- never count them out.
