Larry Campbell Now 4th Nationally All-Time

September 19, 2007

Red Devil Head Coach Larry Campbell is now fourth on the national all-time high school football coaching win list with 406 wins.

The 32-0 drubbing of the Devils' archrival moved "Legendary Larry" ahead of Pete Atkins from Missouri. Coach Atkins coached from 1951 through 1994, winning 405 while losing only 60 and tieing 4. Coach Campbell is now 406-69-3.

G. A. Moore of Texas is third nationally on the all-time list at 412-83-9. However, 8 of those wins during his final season in 2004 were later ordered forfeited by the Texas high school association. We understand that ruling may be under appeal. If that ruling is upheld, Coach Campbell would be third on the all-time list. He is currently third on the active list.

And regardless of those forfeits, the Red Devils could push Campbell past Coach Moore later this season with 7 more wins.

John T. Curtis of John Curtis Christian School in Louisiana is second at 446-46-6. His team won its 21st state title since 1975 last season.

John McKissick of Summerville High near Charleston SC is the national leader with 546 wins, now in his 56th season.
