With our Red Devils having an open date this week, here's a quick look around GHSA for games of interest in this, the fourth week of the 2007 season.
Warren County, still playing at its old Legion Field home, hosts Jefferson from up above Athens. The Dragons will have their work cut out for them, as the Screaming Devils are not happy after losing to Swainsboro by 10 last Friday. The new Warren County gridiron is expected to be ready soon. Twiggs County, like Warren expected to be a 7-A contender, will have a tough test when the Cobras visit AA Bleckley County in Cochran. Bleckley led Hawkinsville 27-6 last week before weather halted their game.
Hancock Central, also expected to be tough this season, travels to Monroe Saturday to play its AAA team. The Bulldogs have wins over AAAA and AA teams, and hope to add a AAA before starting its region play next week in Monticello.
Lincoln County's opponent next week, Aquinas, also has the week off as does Monticello. GMC travels to Athens Christian in try to right a season gone wrong early.
In Class A action around the state, Bowdon travels to Greenville in a homecoming of sorts as western Red Devil coach Dwight Hochstetler goes against his previous employer. Hockstetler coached Greenville against our Devils in the '84 Class A finals.
Powerful ECI has Toombs County visiting for a big showdown in that part of the country. In the opposite corner of the Peach State, Commerce travels to Trion.
Hawkinsville will be looking for its first win of the season when it travels to Telfair County in a Region 2-A matchup. This is Hawkinsville's worst start since 1992.
In the local area, Washington-Wilkes travels to Dawsonville to take on Dawson County. This is the Tigers worst start in a decade. Thomson has an open date this week after starting 2-0-1.
