Devil Defense Leads Way To Stifle Hurricanes 41-0

October 05, 2007

The Red Devil defense scored two touchdowns and held the visiting Hurricanes from Monticello scoreless enroute to a 41-0 Region 7-A victory. Our Devils are now 5-0 and tied with Warren County for the top spot in 7-A.

Our Devils wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Austin Goldman finding Jamareon Green for a nine-yard touchdown pass with 8:51 left in the opening quarter. The pass capped an 8-play, 69-yard drive that started with the opening kickoff.

Five minutes later Carlous Hearst scooped up a Monticello fumble and raced 70 yards to the endzone. Vance Tarver's PAT boot increased Lincoln County's lead to 13-0.

Jafabian Green scored from 12 yards out with 19 ticks left in the opening period.

A. G. Middlebrooks caught a short pass from Goldman and then rambled 47 yards to pay dirt. He broke several tackles along the way, and did most of the running minus one shoe.

Fifteen seconds later, Jatoyaus Jones picked up another Hurricane fumble and scored from 10 yards out. A five-yard run by Middlebrooks with 3:32 left in the half finished the scoring. The last TD was setup by a 63-yard punt return by Alex Ellis.

With a 41-0 halftime score, the second half was played under GHSA mercy rules.
