Week 7: Wilcox Slips, Warren Rolls

Warren County continues to roll toward the Region 7-A collision in Lincolnton October 26. Wilcox County, ranked by the AJC as the #1 team in Class A, lost to Region 2A-A opponent Turner County 14-6.

Friday night the Screaming Devils' superstar QB Tommy Seals led Warren County to a 57-14 Homecoming win over Aquinas. Seals, playing only the first half, rushed for 116 yards on 7 carries and completed 4 of 5 pass attempts for 81 yards. As a team, Warren totalled 500 yards rushing on 37 carries. Wilkinson County, our Devils' next opponent, whipped Monticello 37-14 for its 3rd straight win. Wilkinson is tied with Warren County and our Devils atop the Region 7-A standings.

Around Class A, the big upset of the night was down in Ashburn where Turner County's Rebels surprised the Wilcox County Patriots 14-6 in a Region 2-A, Subregion A matchup. Wilcox had rolled over their first 6 opponents by a combined score of 261-33, and was favored by many to win the 2007 state title.

Also in Region 2-A Sub A, Irwin County nipped Hawkinsville 17-14.

In 8-A, Commerce barely overcame Social Circle 36-25 while Athens Academy beat Prince Avenue Christian 24-14. Jefferson outlasted Bremen (from 6-A) 41-28. Bowdon led late, but lost its fifth game of the year 25-14 to Randolph-Clay.

ECI continued to roll through Region 3-A, doubling Claxton 42-21. Clinch County whipped Calhoun County 35-14.

In area games, Washington-Wilkes squeaked by Oglethorpe County 20-18, and Thomson walloped Butler 40-6.
