Devils Travel to Fairburn to Play Landmark Christian

November 09, 2007

Friday's action left a three-way tie for first place in Region 7-A, with Warren County, Twiggs County, and our Devils named Co-Champions. Lincoln County, with a third-place seeding, now must hit the road west to play Landmark Christian next Friday.

Twiggs County overcame a second half deficit to lead 24-19, and recovered a Wilkinson County fumble at their 2 to preserve the all-important win. Our Devils' 48-0 pounding of GMC and Warren County's 49-0 drubbing of Hancock Central left 3 teams tied for first place in 7-A with 6-1 region marks. Warren County gets the top seed since they defeated a Class A team outside the region, and Twiggs and Lincoln did not play other Class A teams. Twiggs gets second since it defeated Lincoln. Lincoln is seeded third with Wilkinson County fourth.

What does that mean? Time for our Red Devils to hit the road. While it's possible our Devils could host a playoff game, it is not likely.

Our first opponent will be Landmark Christian, a 6-4 team that finished tied for first in 5-A, and will be seeded second. Our Devils met Landmark's War Eagles in 2002 when they were led by QB Alex Mortensen. The game was played at nearby Sandy Creek High since Landmark's field had some issues. Our Devils won 21-0.

Landmark is located in Fairburn, near I-85 southwest of the Atlanta airport. We'll provide a preview of Landmark and full travel info soon.

Elsewhere in Class A during the final week of the regular season, two big upsets highlighted the results.

Unbeaten Pacelli fell to Brookstone 28-21 in a game that decided the two top spots in 4-A. Schley County defeated Chattahoochee County for the third and fourth slots.

In the other big upset, unbeaten Fellowship Christian lost to 6-4 Whitefield Academy 18-15. That left a 3-way tie for first place with those 2 teams and Landmark Christian. Tiebreaker puts the seeding order as Fellowship, Landmark, and Whitefield.

That leaves only ECI as remaining Class A unbeaten school as the playoffs begin.

Hawkinsville failed to make the playoffs this season, losing to Johnson County 22-20 in the 2-A crossover game.
