Several Upsets May Be In Store This Friday

November 14, 2007

The first round of 2007's Class A playoffs presents several opportunities for many would consider upsets.

In addition to our own #3-seed Red Devils taking on #2 Landmark Christian, some thing that #4 Social Circle may surprise the 6-A champs Bremen in west Georgia. If our Devils win, they play the winner in Bremen (if the Blue Devils triumph) or in Lincolnton (if the Redskins win).

#4 Wilkinson County, some say, has a good chance against 5-A champ Fellowship Christian. Likewise for #3 Commerce against Gordon Lee way up in Chickamauga.

3-A winner ECI, the lone undefeated team in the Class A playoffs, is at home when Seminole County visits Twin City. Seminole is from a tough region, while ECI's region competition does not have the same reputation. The stats say the Bulldogs should win easily, but ... And then that winner has a tough game the next week against the winner of Pacelli and Dooly County.

Irwin County also has a good chance against 4-A titlist Brookstone in Columbus. Irwin is from that very tough 2-A. Whitefield Academy is at Twiggs County, and Athens Academy welcomes Trion to Slaughter Field.

Warren County hosts ELCA and Jefferson hosts Bowdon. Look for the Screaming Devils and the Dragons to meet in the second round in a repeat of their regular season matchup.

Claxton has the unenviable task to visiting Clinch County; the Tigers better take some fruitcake to feed those swamp boys in Homerville. Chattahoochee County will also have a tough time against Wilcox County. Bryan County at Miller County might be a little closer, as should Schley County at Johnson County.
