Lincoln County's Red Devils will be looking to get the 2008 season off to a good start this Friday at Buddy Bufford Field when the Greene County Tigers come visiting. Kickoff is slated for 7:30.
The Tigers are led by four college prospects: running back/receiver Devante Smith, linebacker/tightend Brian Alexander, back Fredrez Terrell, and back/defensive end Terrance Wright. Alexander and Terrell are both 6'2" and weigh in at 205.
Greene County has visited the playoffs each of the past five seasons under coach Larry Milligan, including the 2005 semi-finals.
The Georgia High School Football Magazine concludes that, "With a young offensive line and only 2 starters back on defense, this year's season will rest largely on the shoulders of QB William Leslie (1382 yards passing in '07)." The Tigers also return Smith as leading rusher with nearly 400 yards and 4.5 speed. The Tiger defense will be young but have good speed.
Greene County will play in Region 4-AA this season with some opponents they haven't seen before. The region includes Macon schools Central, Northeast, Southwest, and the new Howard High, plus Henry County and Monticello.
Greene County scrimmaged in Washington last Thursday to a 7-7 draw. Reportedly one Tiger was lost for the season due to a knee injury during that event.
Our Devils edged Thomson 7-6 last Thursday in Lincolnton.
