ECI, Clinch County, and Athens Academy continued to roll through their Class A schedules.
ECI trounced fellow Region 3 school Bryan County 36-8, while Clinch County dominated Randolph-Clay 50-0. Athens Academy beat Walker 41-17. Wilcox County had some trouble but defeated Wilkinson County 30-14; Wilkinson is expected to battle with W-W and our Devils for the 7-A title.
Commerce's up-and-down year hit a low spot with a 27-0 loss at home to Class AAA Franklin County. The Tigers next game is in Lincolnton September 26. Bowdon rolled over AA Temple 41-6, and Brookstone nipped Greenville 14-13 in a key early Region 4-A matchup.
Hawkinsville took another beating, this time 48-16 at the hands of AAA Perry. The game was tied 10-all at the half. Hawkinsville lost head coach Lee Campbell to Dodge County during the off-season.
Closer to home, Warren County unfortunately repeated last week's result: losing 20-0 to a playoff-caliber team. This time it was Eagles Landing Christian Academy. Warren hosts Dooly County, another playoff team, next week. Washington-Wilkes defeated Social Circle 18-7 and Aquinas fell to Westside 35-21.
Three weeks into the season, our Red Devils are the only Class A team yet to give up a point. Click here for OceanTiger's Class A Scoring Top 10s. Only 4 teams have yet to be scored on in 2008: Coffee and Stephenson in AAAAA, Monroe-Albany in AAA, and our Devils.
Of course, our Devils have a huge test facing them this Friday when they travel to Abbeville, South Carolina. The Panthers have averaged 32 points in winning their first 3 games, including a 35-21 win over Hart County (Georgia).
