As Region 7-A begins region play this coming week, some surprises popped up this past Friday.
Glascock County whipped Aquinas 41-20 for its third win of the year, after starting the season by nearly upsetting Warren County (22-16). The Panthers dress only 14 players (12 seniors), according to GaSports.com. The Irish now host our Devils this Friday.
Warren County, struggling to score against teams that have been in the Class A playoffs in recent years, may have found the answer to its offensive woes: reports indicate sophomore Coby Reynolds rushed 9 times for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns, and had a 50-yard TD called back on a penalty. Warren beat North Paulding, a new Class AAAA school in Dallas that dressed 94 players, 37-19.
No surprise in the Washington-Wilkes game -- the Tigers slammed the Calhoun Falls Blue Flashes 55-6.
ECI led 45-0 at the half and finished with a 52-6 win over Jenkins County. Johnson County also continued its undefeated season with a 34-20 win over Montgomery County. These two meet in a few weeks to decide.
Twiggs County scored 34 points, but lost by 29! Wilcox County's powerful offense looks to roll over 2-A this season, as it did the Cobras last Friday 63-34.
Miller County, Clinch County, Landmark Christian, Athens Academy, Bowdon, and Bremen all continued their usual excellent seasons.
Charlton County, a Class AA power and former Devil nemesis, lost a Region 2-AA game to Appling COunty 14-7.
