Lincoln County's Red Devils will face one of their toughest challenges this season when the Wilkinson County Warriors visit Buddy Bufford Field this Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
The Warriors, tied with our Devils with a 3-0 Region 7-A mark, are 6-2 in 2008. Those two losses were to Twiggs County and Wilcox County, both of whom are expected to go far in the playoffs this year. Wilcox and ECI are considered the two best teams in Class A this season, after meeting in the state finals last year. Wilcox is undefeated, and Twiggs has lost only to Wilcox and one other team.
Wilkinson used its outstanding speed to wallop Washington-Wilkes 44-7 last Friday. That's 30 points more than our Devils managed to score on the same Tiger team a week earlier.
The Warriors have allowed only 8 points in their last 5 games, while scoring 187. That includes a 48-zip rout of both Warren County and Aquinas.
Speed and huge linemen make Wilkinson tough. Wide receiver Toni McCrea is a Division I prospect with 4.4 speed. Running back Bernardis Hughes has also been clocked at 4.4. Fabian and Damian Todd are 290 and 270 respectively on the line.
