Lincoln County's Red Devils will host the Eagles Landing Christian Academy's Chargers this Friday night in the second round of the Class A playoffs.
The Devils will be playing for their 19th straight home playoff game, having last lost at Buddy Bufford Field in the postseason in the 1999 state title game. Big Red is 33-3 in its last 36 home playoff games.
ELCA, from McDonough, has won 9 of its last 10 games, with the sole loss coming to 5-A champ Whitefield Academy, 20-17, two weeks ago. The Chargers have been in the playoffs 7 straight years, and are 25-9 over the past 3 seasons.
ELCA is led by tailback Van Jakes (5-8, 190), who is called a "Great player" by second-year head coach Jonathan Gess. Jakes father played in the NFL. Van runs a 4.6 with explosive speed and is extremely strong. Darrien Henderson (4.5 speed) is a dangerous receiver and running back for the Chargers. Ellis Spratlin (6-2, 240 center) and Chris Farr (6-1, 240) anchor line play. Austin Murphy, Adam Rutledge, and Michael Boyton are experienced receivers.
