Red Devils Make All-State Teams

Garrett Matthews, a 6-2 senior offensive lineman, led the Red Devils receiving post-season honors. Garrett, the son of Glen and grandson of Mack Matthews, was named to the first team offense by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Associated Press.

Receiving Honorable Mention notice were junior running back A. G. Middlebrooks and linebacker Tavious McGahee.

Also of note in the AJC list, Tony McCrea of Wilkinson County was named the Class A Defensive Player of the Year, and Wesleyan Coach Franklin Pridgen was Class A Coach of the Year. Antonio Marshall of Wilcox County was the "Athlete of the Year". Quayshon Simmons, a junior linebacker from Wilkinson, was named to the first team defense.

AJC Class A team

Garrett and senior kicker Vance Tarver were named to the Associated Press Class A All-State Team. Senior wide receiver Wilkes Goolsby joined A. G. Middlebrooks on the AP honorable mention list.

AP All-State Teams

A. G., with nearly 1,500 yards rushing and nearly 300 receiving, was named to the Augusta Chronicle's All-Area Georgia squad. Vance was selected as the first-team kicker. Wilkes and Garrett were named to the second team offense. Tavious was selected to the third-team defense.

Receiving Honorable Mention notice from Augusta were Devil standouts Jatayaus Jones, Marquis Parks, Johnny Cobb, Major Elam, Alex Ellis, and Jafabian Green.
