Class A Coaches Have Best Longevity

August 18, 2010

As noted by the GHSF Daily newsletter, coaches last longer at Class A schools.

Five of the eight Georgia coaches with the longest tenures at their school coach in the smallest classification (Class A coaches shown in bold):

39 years - Larry Campbell, LC
28 years - Buck Godfrey, Southwest Dekalb
26 years - Alan Chadwick, Marist
23 years - Dwight Hochstetler, Bowdon
22 years - Steve Savage, Commerce
21 years - Rich McWhorter, Charlton County
20 years - Michael Gunn, Athens Academy

20 years - Kevin Maloof, Dacula

The story noted that Commerce has had only two head football coaches in 43 seasons, Savage and Ray Lamb. Our Red Devil program beats that mark with only two in 50 seasons: Thomas Bunch for 11 years and "Coach" now in his 39th campaign.
