9/10 Roundup: Clinch Whips Wilcox

September 11, 2010

Defending Class A State Champ Wilcox County lost a Region 2-A game to Clinch County Friday night.

The showdown in Homerville was even in the first half, but the home-standing Panthers took control as the night wore on to win 33-14. For Clinch, this was a bit of revenge for its 20-14 semifinal loss to the Patriots last year. [game story] Charlton County demolished Lanier County 42-7.

Wesleyan handed Twiggs County its third loss and second consecutive whitewashing of 2010 as the Wolves won at home 33-0. [game story]

ECI whipped Metter 45-21, Johnson County blasted Calvary Day 42-14, and Savannah Christian beat Jenkins County 35-7 [game story] in Region 3-A crossover games.

In other games involving 7-A schools, Warren County lost a close one to George Walton Academy, 14-6 in Warrenton. Aquinas continued its offensive explosion with a 51-0 blast in Social Circle.

Wilkinson County defeated Whitefield Academy 33-7. Hancock Central had the night off as the Bulldogs host Aquinas for their homecoming Friday.

Washington-Wilkes also had the night off before hosting the Commerce Tigers this coming Friday. Those Tigers from Jackson County will be in a snarly mood as they suffered one of their worst losses ever last night, 42-0 to North Oconee in Tiger Stadium. [game story] There's speculation that Commerce Coach Steve Savage will retire in December.
