Darlington Pounds Prince Avenue To Host Devils; Johnson to Host Wilcox

November 13, 2010

The Darlington Tigers had little trouble dispatching Prince Avenue Christian Friday night, jumping to a 35-0 halftime lead enroute to a 49-13 pounding. Elsewhere in Class A, Wilcox County and Johnson County are headed to a showdown in Wrightsville in week 2.

Issac Nichols scored four touchdowns with 114 yards on 13 carries to lead the Tigers to their tenth win of 2010. Tiger sophomore QB Brad Butler was 5-for-5 for 156 yards with a touchdown. The game was the Athens area team's first playoff game, and PAC is one of the smallest football-playing schools in Class A. [Game story and video from Rome newspaper] --

The defending champ Patriots already had the game well-in-hand with a 36-14 lead. [Video highlights]

Wilcox will now travel a little east to Wrightsville to take on the undefeated Johnson County Trojans. Johnson pounded Terrell County 55-14.

Other teams from Region 7-A did not fare as well as our Devils. Wilkinson County barely got by Holy Innocents' 34-30, taking the lead late in the game after HI failed to make a key first down.
