In a very light opening weekend schedule, Abbeville came from behind to defeat an error-prone Chester team, and Hancock Central surprised Greene County.
Abbeville, South Carolina, next up on our Devils' schedule, won their 15th consecutive game last Friday with a 15-7 win over the larger Chester Cyclones. The Panthers, the defending SC Class A champs, were able to move the ball on the ground under the leadership of a freshman quarterback. The Panthers' last loss was to Chester 35-21 in last season's opener. Their closest game during the winning streak was the first win, a 24-21 win over our Devils as a last second LC field goal attempt went just wide.
Rock Hill Herald: Panthers Slip Past Cyclones
Hancock Central ran past Class AA Greene County 34-21. The win was the Bulldogs' first against the Tigers since 2001 and only the 3rd in 37 games against their neighboring school. In the past 3 seasons, Hancock has managed only 3 wins, so 2011 is off to a great start for the Sparta school.
