First Live TV Game Broadcast from Buddy Bufford Field Thursday

August 30, 2011

Football teams have been playing on the same field of dirt and grass since the inaugural season in 1922, and have seen many firsts.

Starting as "the level corner" of Dr. E. R. May's cow pasture, it became May Field for its first 25 years of use. Lights were first added in 1947. The stadium was renamed "Buddy Bufford Field" in 1961 after Coach Bufford succumbed to cancer.

While games have been broadcast live on radio and the Internet, and games were videotaped for playback on local cable systems, there has never been a live television broadcast of a game from Lincolnton -- until this Thursday.

WJBF Sports will broadcast the game live on Channel 6.2. The game will be rebroadcast on Channel 6 at 1:00 Sunday.

Kickoff is set for 7:00, so be there early. McCormick lost their season opener but should be ready for a good game against our Red Devils.
