While we almost had an upset in Lincolnton last Friday night, there were two big shockers elsewhere in Georgia Class A that night.
Close to home and in Region 7-A, Aquinas kicked a field goal with 2:44 to give the Irish a 24-21 win over previously undefeated and defending region champ Wilkinson County. Brenda Douglas led the 4-0 Irish with 149 yards on 30 carries. Click here for Chronicle recap
In the other big shocker, defending Class A champion Clinch County was upset by Irwin County 32-31 after a terrible second half by the Panthers. Clinch now has two region losses, and has yet to play undefeated Charlton County in the 2-A wars.
Hancock Central, which will host our Red Devils this coming Friday, improved to 3-2 with a 66-6 blasting of hapless Twiggs County. The Bulldogs' two losses were to Aquinas (35-20) and Putnam County, both of which are having good seasons.
Washington-Wilkes continues to improve after the Tigers' shaky start. Last Friday they defeated Class AAA Oconee County 27-14.
Other Class A powers, including ECI, Bowdon, ELCA, Marion County, and Charlton County all won big.
