Devils Face Raiders Again, Aquinas Stuns Wilcox County

November 19, 2011

Lincoln County will meet Savannah Christian in the quarterfinals for the third straight year. Our Devils hope the third time is the charm when they face the Raiders this Friday, but the location will be different - 7:00 in Savannah.

Savannah Christian (12-0) grabbed a 17-0 halftime lead enroute to a 38-7 thumping of strong Bowdon. The Western Red Devils could never get untracked against the very strong Raider defense. SavannahNow game story

Savannah Christian and our Devils are ranked 1-2 respectively in the latest GACA coaches poll.

The big upset of the night in Class A, and probably in all of the Peach State, is what Aquinas did in Rochelle. The Irish jumped out to a lead over the unbeaten Wilcox County Patriots. The home team took a 14-13 lead, but Aquinas, behind the running of Brendan Douglas, scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to secure a 32-14 win. Aquinas will host Landmark Christian next Friday in the quarterfinals. Landmark Christian was a 21-7 winner over Calvary Day. Chronicle game recap The game will be a rematch of the season opener for both teams when Landmark won 10-8.

Wilkinson County lost to Seminole County 28-7. Seminole will now travel north to play Eagles Landing Christian Academy, a 54-0 winner over Greenville.

Bremen upset previously unbeaten Marion County 10-7. The Blue Devils will travel to Bogart to take on Prince Avenue Christian. PAC beat Charlton County by a surprising 21-3 score. OnlineAthens PAC-Charlton story

To recap, all three teams from Region 2-A, considered by some to be the strongest region, failed to make the quarterfinals.
