Savannah Christian whipped Landmark Christian 20-3 in the Georgia Dome yesterday to win the Raiders' first state football title in the GHSA.
Our Red Devils were the only team to score first and to take a lead on the private school, thanks to our first quarter touchdown. The final winning margin of 8 points (22-14) was the slimmest of any Raider game this year.
The Red Devils should be ranked in the top 3 in the final Class A ratings.
With Savannah Christian winning the title, this marks the 15th time in the last 38 years that the Red Devils lost in the playoffs to the eventual state champion. Coupled with the 11 state titles won during that period, 26 times the Devils have either won the title or lost to the eventual champ.
Add to that great mark six playoff losses to the eventual state runner-up.
In the last 10 seasons, the Devils have won state twice, lost to the eventual state champion five times, and lost to the state runner-up three times.
