Lincoln County New #1

August 26, 2012

Lincoln County's Red Devils are the new top-ranked team in Class A according to the latest AJC poll released earlier today.

This is Lincoln County's first #1 ranking since November 2007. The Devils finished the 2011 season in 2nd place in some rankings.

The Devils must play undefeated teams at least their first two outings, with McCormick winning their opener. After traveling to South Carolina this week, the Devils will host arch-rival Washington-Wilkes. The Tigers are 1-0 and have an open date this Friday.

Defending champ and former #1 Savannah Christian dropped all the way to #10. We had heard that the Savannah Christian coach was complaining about a lack of players while fishing in Clark Hill Lake this summer. ELCA dropped to third behind Wilcox County. Fellow 7-A schools Wilkinson County and Aquinas are fourth and sixth, respectively. Charlton County is fifth.

Vidalia, which LC edged in the scrimmage, is 10th in Class AA. Thomson, thanks to its upset of Burke County, is sixth in Class AAA.
