Coach Buddy Radford Passes Away

Albert S. "Buddy" Radford III, Red Devil assistant coach from 1960 through 1962, passed away September 25. During those three seasons the Devils were 35-1, winning two state titles with a runner-up the other year.

The funeral is planned for 2 PM Thursday, September 27, at Lincolnton United Methodist Church. Pallbearers include three Georgia high school football coaching legends: former Warrenton and Commerce coach Ray Lamb and our own Larry Campbell and Dan Pitts.

Radford left Lincolnton in 1963 to become the head coach of Sparta He led the Saints to an 8-2 mark, the most wins in their history. His twelve-year coaching career also included stints at Fort Valley, Jones County, and Manchester.

Coach Radford returned to Lincolnton where he served as principal of the Elementary School from 1977 until his retirement in 1989. He also worked as a realtor in the area.
