This morning the GHSA Reclassification Committee met in Thomaston and placed schools in regions for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years. Lincoln County was again placed in Region 7-A, but the region grew by 3 schools.
Schools have until December 13 to file an appeal to transfer to another region. The GHSA Executive Committee will meet January 14 to finalize region assignments.
Pending any approved appeals, Region 7-A will again be split into two sub-regions. This was the case the past two years, but the region played a full football schedule since there were only eight schools playing region. Three Macon private schools have been added to the region, probably pushing 7-A to a subregion format.
The three new schools played in the GISA in recent years: Mt. de Sales, Stratford Academy, and Tattnall Square Academy. Stratford was the GISA Class AAA runnerup this year. Our Devils last played Mt. de Sales in 1977.
Those three join 7-A sub-region A, which also includes First Presbyterian Day, Twiggs County, Wilkinson County, and the Georgia School for the Deaf.
With Lincoln County in 7-A sub-region B are Aquinas, Glascock County, GMC, Hancock Central, Taliaferro County, and Warren County.
Our Devils would play 4 or 5 sub-region games with game 10 possibly being a region play-in game.
Washington-Wilkes remained in Region 8-AA.
