Next Friday, Lincoln County will host Stratford Academy in the Region 7-A "play-in" game.
The Eagles were the 2013 GISA Class AAA football champions before moving to the GHSA. This season the Macon private school is 6-3, with all three losses to powerful private schools: 27-14 to AA Wesleyan, 28-27 to Aquinas, and 24-7 to Tattnall Square. Undefeated Tattnall Square and Aquinas will meet in Augusta to decide the 2014 7-A region champion.
After the play-in games are completed, the region champions will be seeded at the top of the bracket based on their power ratings. Marion County, Irwin County, and Mitchell County have qualified so far. Commerce and ECI are still in the running for region crowns. The rest of the 16-team field will be filled out based on power ratings.
If the current power ratings were used, our Red Devils would be seeded 11th, and would travel on November 21 in the first round of the Class A Public playoffs. Likely opponents include Commerce, Hawkinsville, ECI, or Claxton. Significant changes could happen during the final week of games. A win over tough Stratford Academy would improve the bracket placement.
