Lincoln County's Red Devils will travel to Columbia County this Friday to scrimmage the Lakeside Panthers.
Preparation for the new season is well underway, with a familiar face again donning a Red Devil coaches shirt. "Chief", also known as Howard Ellis, will return to the defensive coordinator position that he performed so well for so many years.
The Devils will open the season on Buddy Bufford Field at Larry Campbell Stadium August 21 when they host the McCormick Chiefs. The lads from South Carolina have a new but proven head coach in Russ Schneider. He was the head coach at Fox Creek charter school in Edgefield County for many years before leaving the position early this year. Fox Creek won their region in 2014.
The Chiefs return their star young running back Mataeo Durant. As a freshman last season, the 6'0", 180-pound running back rushed for nearly 1,800 yards and is now already on the recruiting lists for major colleges. With him carrying the pigskin and an experienced coach, McCormick may have their best chance in many years to overcome the Devils. The Chiefs last claimed a win over our Devils in 1974.
Kickoff August 21 is set for 7:30. All Lincoln County fans need to be there to cheer on the 2015 Red Devils!
