Johnson County Invades Buddy Bufford Field This Friday

October 29, 2002

Back in August, many folks expected Johnson County, the defending Region 4-A champion, to battle with our Red Devils for the 2002 Region 7-A crown, with Twiggs County finishing third.

But the season has taken unexpected turns for both JC's Trojans and Twiggs' Cobras. Johnson County lost much of its coaching staff from 2001, and several standout players over the last couple of years. The boys from Wrightsville lost their first four games, including blowouts to AAA power Washington County and A power Clinch County. They won 3 Class A games before giving Twiggs County a good battle last week, losing 20-7. Twiggs County, off this week and the Devils opponent next week, is unexpectedly undefeated and has outpointed opponents by 295-16.

A Red Devil win sets up the 7-A Championship in Lincolnton next week. A loss will likely put Lincoln County on the road during the first round of playoffs.
