Lincoln County, off to its best start since 1997, will kickoff its 2003 Region 7-A schedule this Friday night at Buddy Bufford Field when the GMC Bulldogs come to town.
The Bulldogs won their last three regular season games in 2002 to grab a playoff spot. GMC is 12-10 over the last two years, but are winless so far in 2003. The Milledgeville school lost to 4-A Treutlen 34-23 last Friday, after falling to Social Circle 35-17 and Athens Academy 38-7 earlier this year.
Some of the Red Devils nursed their bumps and bruises during last week's open date. Gavin Williams and Roncey Cummings were banged up in the Commerce win. Senior lineman Mark Saggus may return to the field this week as well.
In Region 7-A, Johnson County travels to Augusta to play Aquinas (3-2). Johnson is unexpectedly winless after 5 games, while Aquinas was bombarded by Twiggs County 63-8 last week. The Cobras are off this week.
Elsewhere in Georgia's Class A this week, region action will continue to heat up the gridiron. Calvary Baptist and ECI will tangle in tough 3-A, as will McIntosh County Academy and Savannah Country Day.
