#1 Red Devils Stay Undefeated with 46-3 Whipping of Aquinas

October 17, 2003

Lincoln County scored on its first six possessions to whip the Aquinas Irish 46-3 in a Region 7-A matchup . The GHSA's new "mercy rule" was used to run the clock the second half.

Raquino Mickens scored on each of his two carries, while Shawntavius Jennings led Devil rushers with 6 carries for 72 yards and 2 TDs.

Senior QB Travis Clark did not dress for the game due to a bad spider bite mid-week that resulted in a hospital visit. WR Steven Brown played and caught one pass despite his MCL knee injury. RB Gavin Williams, nursing his ACL injury, dressed but did not play.

Aquinas' third quarter field goal were the first points given up this season by the Devils prior to the fourth quarter.

In other Region 7-A action, Warren County outlasted Johnson County 29-20 in a game many expect to decide the third and fourth 7-A seeds in the playoffs. Twiggs County shutout GMC 32-0 in Milledgeville.

Elsewhere in Class A Friday night, ECI took advantage of two Metter fumbles to upset their 3-A rival 15-10 and hand the Tigers their first loss of 2003. Pacelli remained undefeated as it beat Miller County 29-20 to position itself as the likely Region 2-A champion. Commerce shellacked Athens Academy 34-7 to take control of 8-A.

In other area action, Thomson came back in the fourth quarter to edge Statesboro 15-14, and Washington-Wilkes doubled Greene County 20-10 in Region 7-A.
