Teams Lock-in Region Titles

November 08, 2003

Class A results Friday night locked in region titles for some teams.

  • #2 Hawkinsville beat Wheeler County 38-18 to clinch the 4-A crown.

  • #3 Clinch County, still favored by most to repeat as state champ, shutout Pelham 39-0 to win 1-A.

  • Pacelli whitewashed Brookstone 50-0 to claim the 2-A title.

  • Commerce whipped Jefferson 35-14 to become the 8-A champion.

  • Trion embarrassed Temple 61-20 to cement its 6-A honor. Temple is the likely opponent for our Devils in the first round of the playoffs November 21 in Lincolnton.

  • Landmark Christian beat Our Lady of Mercy 48-12 and will be the 5-A champ.

The only region where the championship is still in question is Region 3, where ECI, Calvary Baptist, Metter, Savannah Country Day, and McIntosh County Academy have been fighting for playoff berths. Metter went into overtime to beat SCD 27-21, and ECI defeated MCA 21-14, this past Friday. Metter travels to Savannah this Friday to play undefeated Calvary Baptist to decide the 3-A champion.

Of interest to fans of neighboring teams, Washington-Wilkes lost to Morgan County 28-6 and will finish 3rd in 7-AA. The Tigers, 6-4, will probably travel to Adairsville in two weeks. Thomson needs a win over Baldwin this Friday to win 3-AAAA and host Griffin in the first round of playoffs.
