Devils Win Region 7-A, Complete Perfect Regular Season
Twiggs County Cobras struck first, but the Lincoln County Red Devils quickly proved their venom would have little effect on Devil blood as they scored 29 unanswered points to win the 2003 Region 7-A Title 29-7 in Jeffersonville Friday night.
Devil QB sensation Travis Clark ran for two TDs and threw for a another TD and a two-point conversion to lead the Devils.
The win may prove very costly to the Devils, as linebacker Brandon Reed suffered a knee injury late in the game. Our sources report that Brandon was taken directly to an Augusta hospital, with initial testing early Saturday morning indicating a torn ACL. Also, running back Antonio Searles injured his hand during the week and did not play Friday.
Lincoln is now 10-0 and ranked #1 in Georgia's Class A. Twiggs is 8-1 and plays Warren County next week; it is likely to drop from its current #4 ranking.
But the best game account is from Michael Lough with the Macon Telegraph. It ends with "And Lincoln had more smash for Twiggs' mouth." Read it here.
Lincoln is off next week, and will probably host Temple in the first round of the playoffs November 21.
