Devils Lead Gordon Central 31-14 in Final Scrimmage

August 15, 2004

When the final whistle blew last Friday night, our Red Devils led Class AAAA Gordon Central 31-14 in the second and final scrimmage of 2004.

The Warriors are from Calhoun, in northwest Georgia between Rome and Chattanooga. That's a 400 mile round trip for a scrimmage!! We were scratching our heads trying to figure out why a team would travel so far for a scrimmage, and we think we found the connection: Allen Fort, the Gordon Central principal, spent several years as an LCHS assistant principal.

In an article by Lex McGee in last week's The Lincoln Journal, regarding the LC's first scrimmage against Thomson, Devil head man "Larry Campbell indicated he was 'real pleased' with the Devils' performance on Friday night. He said that the two biggest questions he had going into the game were concerning his pass protection and how his post-ACL surgery players would respond to game conditions. Both questions, he said, were answered to his satisfaction. ... Campbell added that he was very happy about getting his second unit some quality playing time against a tough opponent."
