The much needed rain earlier in the week forced the September 9 game to be played at Lakeside instead of at The Bud. But that didn't matter to our Red Devils as the Lincoln County youngsters won 28-0 against the bigger school.
For the 3rd consecutive week the Devil Defense set the tone early, stuffing Lakeside for a 3-and-out first series. After the punt, the Devil Offense struck with a toss sweep run by Ricardo Norman. The Junior Devils led 7-0 after Josh Hollimon's PAT kick.
After another Lakeside punt, several runs by Tyler Beale and Norman, D. J. Jones scored his first touchdown of the season on a toss sweep. Another Lakeside possession ended with another Lakeside punt. This time the Devils went to the air with a flats pass from Austin Goldman to Logan Rhodes scoring the third Devil TD of the evening. Hollimon's third extra point kick gave the Devils a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.
Lincoln County started building for the future, with the number 2 offense taking the field in the second quarter. Several good runs from Daniel Morris and Carlous Hearst threatened to increase the score before the half ended.
The third quarter started with the Devils driving the ball down the field on several runs by Richardo Norman, Tyler Beale and Rontae Norman. The Devils went to the air using the Goldman to Rhodes connection for a 50-yard TD pass. Hollimon's fourth PAT gave the Devils a 28-0 early in the third quarter.
Coach Blizzard commented that "the first unit defense had great play from all 11 players... the 'D' really set the tone for the offense."
The Devil coaches emptied the whole bench in the third quarter, and every Red Devil got to play throughout the third and fourth quarters.
The Junior Varsity's September 16 game with Thomson was cancelled due to weather.
