The four visiting teams in this week's Class A quarterfinals will be leaving their hometowns very early for their trips across Georgia.
Savannah Country Day hopes to continue their Cinderella season as they head northwest to Bowdon. Wataboy and his buddies are waiting to swat this swarm of Hornets, but they best be careful their western Red Devils don't get stung by the Pacelli Vikes did last Friday.
Athens Academy is sure to see the biggest crowd ever at the Spartans' expanded Slaughter Field when Hawkinsville brings their defending state champion Red Devils to the "gridiron by the pond." Unfortunately, their internet broadcast will not be pleasant for the AA fans, especially with their starting QB out for the season. Hawkinsville will be headed back down 441 smiling after this one.
And then there's Bremen, with their blue-tinted Devils, that must go way down south to trudge through the swamp to Homerville to play Clinch County. The homestanding Panthers may have one of the best all-time rushing defenses in Georgia, allowing only a few yards a game. If Bremen thought the ride to Homerville was long, we're afraid they will find the ride back to Haralson County much much longer.
And of course our Red Devils will travel some 245 miles or almost 5 hours to play McIntosh County Academy.
