The headline on a story in Saturday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution read "Record-setting coach might quit."
The article (click here) reported that after Friday's game, Devil head coach Larry Campbell said he would decide in the next few days whether he would return for the 2005 season. (The article incorrectly cited Coach's years as a head coach and all-time record.)
UPDATE 11/30: Another source has notified us that they were present at the post-game interview and that Coach Campbell "… never said anything about retire, retiring or retirement, because believe me, I would have followed up on it."
According to Jeff Sentell's article in Sunday's Augusta Chronicle, Coach Campbell was "shocked" and "befuddled" when he found AJC reported he said, after Friday's loss, that he was contemplating retirement. Click here for the Chronicle story, featuring many quotes from Coach, including this: "Lincoln County and Lincoln County High School have been very good to me and my family," Campbell said. "At my age I sit down at the end of every season and think about what is best for Lincoln County High School and the Lincoln County school system. The main thing is when I ride out into the sunset it will be in the best interest of Lincoln County and its school system. That's for sure."
And we hope that particular sunset is still many years in the future! -- Tradition
