Diamond Devils Host St. Francis in Class A Playoffs May 13-14

The Devils were nipped 3-2 at the very last moment by GMC May 6 to end LCHS' 15-game winning streak. Lincoln County finished the regular season with a fantastic 18-4 record overall and 9-1 in Region 7-A.

On May 6 in Milledgeville, the Bulldogs scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim third place in Region 7-A.

GMC jumped out front in the bottom of the first on a walk, a stolen base and two ground outs. The Red Devils came back in the bottom of the third to take the lead 2-1. Cody Beggs reached on a GMC error and Dontai Parks was hit by a pitch. Danny Williford singled to drive in the first run and Brandon Barden sacrificed to score Parks. LCHS kept the lead until the bottom of the sixth when GMC had a double and a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third. The next hitter walked and was thrown out stealing but the tying run scored on the play. The Bulldogs had a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh. The runner moved to third on a ground ball to first. The next hitter struck out before a ground ball was hit in the hole to right field. Kiece Crite made an outstanding play to get to the ball but the runner beat the throw to first.

Cordarryl Coppin scattered four hits to get the list and deserved a better fate. The Devils advanced seven runners to second or third but couldnít advance them to the plate.

Lincoln County 15, Aquinas 1

Lincoln County jumped on Aquinas Tuesday for a 15-1 victory. The Devils got things started with two runs in the second inning. Back-to-back singles by Brandon Barden and Austin Goldman set the stage for Casey Norman's two-run double. Cordarryl Coppin led off the third inning with a ground ball that was misplayed by the Irish. Danny Williford then got hit by a pitch. An Irish passed ball moved the runners to second and third. Tyler Beale then lofted a soft fly ball that drove in Coppin. Aquinas scored itís only run of the night in the bottom of the third with two walks and a base hit. The hit was the only hit allowed by pitcher Barden. Consecutive hits by Goldman, Kiece Crite and Norman gave the Devils two more runs in the top of the fourth.

LCHS broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth by scoring ten runs. Beale led off the inning with a walk and scored on Bardenís triple. Goldman walked and advanced on Criteís run scoring single. Cody Beggs added an RBI single. Dontai Parks then beat out an infield single. Coppin then drove in both runners with a double. He was followed by Willifordís two-run homer. The onslaught continued with back to back walks to Barden and Goldman. C. J. Norman then got an RBI single. Casey Norman walked to load the bases. Josh Hollimon then drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Devils their final 15-1 score.
