Lincoln County's Junior Varsity went right to work against the visiting Washington-Wilkes Tigers when the Devils drove 70 yards on 13 plays to score their first TD of the season. Freshmen Alex Ellis and Bo Reed rotated at quarterback during the drive, with freshman running back Jarren Brown and sophomore fullback Jamereon Green dashing down the field through holes created by the offensive line. "Our offensive line deserves much credit for their effort against WW," commented JV head coach Kevin Blizzard. Green scored the first TD up the middle to put LC up 6-0.
W-W fumbled their kickoff return with the young Devils recovering and then driving to the Tiger 10. Freshman kicker Vance Tarver booted a field goal for a 9-0 lead.
After the Devil Defense forced a punt with a great effort, our JV ran on several plays with Green, Brown, and sophomore Dechance Willis toting the pigskin. Reed then passed to sophomore tight-end Josh Hollimon for the touchdown. Tarver kicked the PAT to give our Devils a 16-0 advantage.
The Red Devil Defense stood their ground throughout the second half and held W-W to limited rushing yards. Said Blizzard, "The defense played hard-nosed all game."
After a defensive interception by sophomore Carlos Hearst, fellow sophomore fullback Brandon Wright helped take the young Devils down inside the 10-yard-line. On 4th and goal, Tarver kicked another field goal for the final 19-0 margin.
"The win against W-W was a total team effort. Offense, defense and all special teams played a great role in the win," Blizzard concluded.
