Devils Travel to Augusta Friday to Take On 4-1 Irish

September 26, 2005

Lincoln County begins its trek in search of its 32nd region football crown when it journeys to Augusta this Friday to play the strong Aquinas Irish at 7:30.

For the second straight year Aquinas comes into the game riding a winning streak. The Irish are 4-0 after an opening week loss to Richmond Academy. In the 4 games since, Aquinas has averaged scoring nearly 40 points while allowing 16 per game.

In 2004, coach Jim Conner led Aquinas to its first postseason action since 1972. The Irish ended the season at 7-4, losing to Landmark Christian in the first round. Conner was named The Augusta Chronicle's Coach of the Year for his efforts.

Irish offensive lineman Gene Maddox returns after making The Chronicle's first team all-area last season. Running back Patrick Nordmann and QB/RB Stephen Logue will be seniors and will help the offensive move, as noted above with the 40-point average.

Region 7-A playoff seeds are expected to be decided between Aquinas, 8th-ranked Warren County, 4th-ranked Washington-Wilkes and our Red Devils, with Hancock Central hoping to upset someone to get in.
