Lincoln County extended its Homecoming Game winning streak to 34 with a 41-6 trouncing of the GMC Bulldogs. Our Red Devils, now riding a 7-game winning streak after an 0-3 start, will host the Jefferson Dragons next Friday in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
With several starters out with injuries, Lincoln County had a sometimes sluggish first half, but led 21-0 at the half thanks to two long runs and a 25-yard pass. Darrell Norman broke loose just two minutes into the game on a 57-yard run. Rontae Norman's PAT kick gave the Devils a lead they would never surrender.
Midway the second quarter, QB Brandon Barden rambled for 70 yards into the endzone, just after the Devils stopped GMC on fourth down at the Lincoln 30. Five minutes later Barden found Alex Bradofrd on a 25-yard touchdown pass play.
In the third quarter, Ricardo Norman scored from the 13. Rontae Norman then returned the next GMC punt 70 yards to pay dirt and a 27-0 lead. In the fourth, Franklin Jones kept striding and broke loose from the pack and scored from 19 out. GMC added a meaningless touchdown as time ran out under the GHSA mercy rules.
Barden finished the game with 113 yards rushing and 1 TD on 3 carries. He was 3 for 6 passing for 50 yards.
Lincoln County finishes the regular season at 7-3 and the Region 7-A champion and top seed. Next Friday, the Devils will host Jefferson, the #4 team from 8-A.
