Devils Show Improvement During Scrimmage

August 24, 2001

Lincoln County showed substantial improvement over their previous scrimmage, but turnovers and penalties led the Devils to a 14-7 deficit against Class AAAA Evans last Friday (August 24) in Lincolnton. Onlookers reported that the LCHS blocking efforts were especially improved. The Devils scored on a 47-yard pass from Cordarryl Coppin to Steven Brown, both freshman, in the third quarter as both schools played their non-starters. Starting backs Courtney Partlow and Sanchez Jones gained good yards, and Terrance Norman was particularly impressive with some good catches and bull-like runs after the catch. A last chance pass from QB Cedric Leverett was just incomplete in the endzone with 16 seconds left in the scrimmage. The Knights were led by running back Fernando Mickens, who scored on runs of 22 and 35 yards. Evans High is coached by Lee Chomskis, nephew of Lincoln native and Georgia legendary high school coach Dan Pitts.
