Our Red Devils will start the 2006 season ranked where they finished 2005 -- number 1 in Class A.
The Associated Press released it's preseason poll of nine sportswriters around the Peach State. Lincoln County received all 9 first place votes in Class A. Bowdon, upset in last year's semifinals by Washington-Wilkes, is second with Johnson County third, Hawkinsville fourth, and Bremen fifth.
Twiggs County, playing in Region 7-A with our Devils this season, is ranked 6th. Clinch County is eighth. Also receiving votes were Commerce, who is rumored to be loaded, and Social Circle with one of the best running backs in the state. McIntosh County Academy and Randolph-Clay moved up to AA for 2006-07 and are listed in the "other" list.

Among other schools of interest to our LC fans, Washington-Wilkes returns to Class AA and received votes but not enough for the top 10. Greene County, the Devils' scrimmage opponent next week, is ranked second in Class AA. Thomson is ranked 10th in Class AAA. Washington County also received votes in AAA as it starts with a new head coach. Rick Tomberlin moved from Sandersville to Valdosta to take over as the Wildcats head coach. Valdosta starts 2006 ranked #6 in Class AAAAA.
In all five classes, the defending state champions is ranked #1 to start the season, although only two (Peach County and our Devils) were unanimous selections.
