Devils Run Over Chiefs 33-0

September 02, 2006

Lincoln County was hindered only by its own mistakes Friday night as the Red Devils whipped the home-standing McCormick Chiefs 33-0.

Rontae Norman and Darell Norman led the offense charge that totalled 402 yards, or an average gain of more than 8 yards per play. Rontae scored on a 14-yard run and a 23-yard pass from Brandon Barden. Darell led the rushing attack with 160 yards on only 11 carries. Darell suffered a shoulder injury late in the first half, but returned for additional gains.

Barden had a 58-yard scoring run cut short by a clipping penalty on the night's first possession. A total of 80 yards in penalties cost the Devils other advances.

Our Devils showed their confidence early in the game, facing a 4th-and-2 at their 42 and going for the first down. That's when Barden rambled into the endzone, but the penalty put the ball at the Chief 45. Darell gained 13, Tyler Beale 6,and Darell 23. Three plays later, facing a 4th-and-6 at the 8, Darell went around the right side and came up inches short of the goalline. Barden went in from there with 4:31 left in the opening quarter of the 2006 season.
