Lincoln County's Junior Varsity Defense once again rose to the occasion and helped shutout Washington-Wilkes 28-0 last Thursday at Tiger Stadium.
The defense set the tone on the first play of the game with freshman defensive tackle Marquis Parks causing a W-W rusher to fumble at the 20-yardline to setup Lincoln's first of 4 TD's. The fumble was recovered by freshman linebacker Tavious McGahee on the W-W 10-yardline. After 2 strong runs by running back Alex Ellis and fullback Jarren Brown, LC scored on its 3rd play of the game with a sweep play by Brown. After the PAT by Vance Tarver, the Junior Devils led 7-0.
The LC defense made several big plays by defensive back Jatoyus Jones and strong safety A. G. Middlebrooks that forced WW to punt several times in the first half. The biggest defensive play in the second quarter came when strong safety Jafabian Green scooped up a fumble by the Tiger QB fumble and raced 45 yards to the LC endzone. Vance Tarver's PAT boot gave the Devils a 14-0 halftime lead.
The 3rd quarter saw the LC defense continue to dominate the game. A Tiger punt was blocked by Brown to setup LC's next touchdown. Running back Josh Sims scored on a 40-yard sweep play. Tarver booted the extra point.
Lincoln County emptied its bench and every player on the team got to play on offense, defense or special teams. The last TD for LC was a sweep play by running back Joseph Freeman who raced 40 yards for the last score of the day. The final was 28-0 in favor of the young Devils.
