Lincoln County travels to Monticello this Friday to play the Purple Hurricanes in the second region 7-A game for both schools.
Monticello is 1-3, but those 3 losses were at the hands of good teams that have a combined record of 10-2-1. From the GHSF magazine: "The Hurricanes were improved in 2005 and return seven starters on each side of the ball. According to coach Doug Huff, the offense has experience in the backfield and up front, while the defense also will be experienced and has the speed to get to the ball and make plays. ... Junior QB Markese Thurman (68-for-128, 1,109 yards) returns. He will be joined in the backfield by college prospect Justin Brown (108 carries, 740 yards, 14 TDs)." Also considered college prospects are defensive end Zaybo Jackson, offensive lineman Michael Rosser (6-1, 285), and defensive back Alex Jordan.
Directions: From Lincolnton, use I-20 to reach the Madison exits. You may want to have dinner at the new Cracker Barrel at the US 441 exit; it was completed earlier this year, and is located across from McDonalds and in front of the Days Inn. Take the second Madison exit and travel south on Monticello Road (GA 83) to Monticello. GA 83 is also known as Trisha Yearwood Parkway as it nears Monticello. At the square, take a right onto GA 11, West Greene Street. The Rose Bowl is approximately 600 feet on the right, below road level. You may be able to park in the church parking lot just before the stadium. Or, go around the curve (road becomes College Street), and park where designated on the left. Monticello is about 25 miles southwest of Madison, and 90 miles from Lincolnton.
