The Devil Defense grabbed 5 interceptions enroute to a 35-0 drubbing of the Hancock Central Bulldogs Friday night at Buddy Bufford Field. The win was Lincoln County's third straight shutout, and the fourth straight without allowing a touchdown.
The win also extends Head Coach Larry Campbell's perfect record in Lincoln County Homecoming games to 35 contests.
Lincoln County took the opening kickoff and moved fairly easily down the field to the 2. Darell Norman gained one yard before the pigskin slipped away, with Tyler Beale recovering in the endzone for the Devils' opening score. Vance Tarver made the first of five extra points on the night.
Late in the first quarter, Ricardo Norman intercepted a Bulldog pass at their 47 and returned the ball for the Devils' second score. Just before half, Austin Goldman found Brandon Barden open at the goalline for a touchdown, but an illegal block penalty nullified the TD. A field goal attempt 2 plays later fell short, leaving the halftime score at 14-0.
Beale scored from 2 yards out to complete the Devils' opening possession of the second half. Trailing 21-0 late in the third, Hancock went to its hurry-up offense. On its 4th play, Rontae Norman intercepted the Bulldogs at midfield and returned the ball to paydirt.
Hancock came back, against moving into LC territory. Kiece Crite, showing no signs of the illness that sidelined him earlier in the season, intercepted at the LC 40 and went down the right side behind a wall of blocks to apparently score. Unfortunately, an illegal block penalty brought the return back to the LC 33.
Midway the fourth, after stopping Hancock on downs, Darell Norman made 3 great cuts on a 48-yard run to the Hancock 7. Ricardo Norman scored from there.
Jamareon Green intercepted a Bulldog pass in the endzone to end another threat.
The shutout was sealed with 4 seconds left when Donnell Wynn tipped a pass in the endzone to Alex Bradford who cradled the interception.
