Devil JV Ends Successful Season

October 22, 2006

Lincoln County's Junior Varsity finished a successful 2006 campaign, although the final game against an outstanding opponent did not end as Devil fans wished. The JV ended with a 5-1 record after the 27-12 loss.

Last Thursday, the Junior Devils hosted the undefeated Evans Knights JV. Evans took the opening kickoff and drove 80 yards, with the first Evans TD coming on a play-action pass to the tight-end.

Lincoln County was forced to punt on its first possession despite good runs by Alex Ellis and A. G. Middlebrooks. The next drive for Evans was much of the same, as strong runs and short passes setup a halfback pass to their wide receiver that helped extend the Knights' lead to 14-0.

The next LC series saw strong runs by Middlebrooks and Jarren Brown to get the offense into Evans territory. Quarterback Bo Reed threw a TD pass to Ellis, and after a missed PAT LC was down 14-6 which is how the half ended.

The second half saw the Devil offense sputter and Evans defense tighten up, forcing several LC punts. The Evans defense scored after a high snap sailed over the Lincoln punter and into the endzone where Evans recovered for a touchdown. The missed PAT left the score 20-6.

Late in the third quarter, the Junior Devils got on the scoreboard again when Jafabian Green picked off an Evans pass and ran 60 yards to the endzone. A failed 2-point conversion left the Devils in striking distance, behind by 8 at 20-12. Both defenses for Evans and LC kept the other's offense in check for most of the final period. Late in the 4th, Evans scored again to make the final score Evans 27, LC 12.

"Our team had a great year with a 5-1 record," commended JV Head Coach Kevin Blizzard on his team's 2006 season. "Our defense played well all year and our offense saw many different kids do positive things with the ball."

The football future is looking bright for our Lincoln County Red Devils!!
