The football season began in the sweaty workouts of July, but it will end for half the teams in Class A this week when the playoff field of 32 is set.
Almost every game being played affects the playoff seedings in some way. Here are the biggest games:
In 6-A, Bowdon hosts Bremen in one of west Georgia's toughest rivalries. The western Red Devils are having their toughest season in two decades, and are a decided underdog to the Blue Devils. Both teams are in the playoffs, with Bremen finishing first in 3 of the 4 possible seeding scenarios. Gordon Lee hosts Trion in the other 6-A game, which will determine who visits Lincolnton next week.
In 3-A, Savannah Country Day visits Twin City and the ECI Bulldogs. This battle of TLAs will decide the top 2 spots, and the winner is a possible third-round opponent should our Devils reach the quarterfinals.
In 4-A, Brookstone and Pacelli meet up to determine that region's top 2 berths.
Region 2-A remains just a mess with a region playoff system that none of the good teams like. Hawkinsville must win on the road at Telfair County to make the state playoffs this year.
In 7-A, two great quarterbacks will be featured when Hancock Central visits Warren County in a matchup that will decide the second seed. Twiggs County and Wilkinson County, two other neighbors, will slug it out for the final 7-A spot.
