TLJ 9/26/1935 - LINCOLNTON HIGH TO PLAY G. M. C. FRIDAY Lincolnton High will open its football season here Friday when Coach Callaway’s Red Shirts meet a fast and husky eleven from G. M. C, Milledgeville. The boys have been put through strenuous practice during the past week, and practically every member of the team is in tip-top condition for the initial fracas. Most of the players are light and inexperienced, but all of them are determined to handle their respective positions and any team they go up against will be met with determination and ambition and lots of skill. The game will start at 3:30 and every football fan in this section should go out Friday and cheer the team in the first game in which many of them ever played. ============= TLJ 10/3/1935 - Heavy GMC Team Downs LHS 27-6 Lincolnton High lost to a much heavier and more experienced football team GMC Milledgeville in the opening game of the season here last Friday afternoon. The score ended 26 to 6. GMC came here with a large number of seasoned, prep school players, and the wonder is that the home lads, most of them light, young, and inexperienced, held them to the score they did. A large crowd turned out to cheer the LHS boys and great things can be expected of them as the season advances. There will be no game this week, but next week they will meet a worthy foe in Hartwell, a school that always puts out a team that is hard to down.
